After moving from his native Cameroon in 2012, the powerful 24-year-old striker, who was previously with Whitehawk, was playing for Stanway Rovers in the Thurlow Nunn League when he caught the eye of then-Billericay Town manager Craig Edwards and, after impressing in an under-21 game at Great Wakering Rovers, and was immediately thrust into the Essex outfit’s first-team.
He marked his debut with a goal in a 6-0 home win over Metropolitan Police and scored 8 times in his first six matches and finished the season with 11 goals in all competitions before controversially switching to Margate in May 2016.
However, Gate pulled out of the deal after being informed by the FA that he wasn`t a `free agent` and therefore Billericay would be entitled to compensation.
Instead, Fondop-Talom eventually joined National League South side Oxford City in August 2016.
He scored 8 goals in 27 appearances in 2016/17 for Oxford City, and successfully combined his football with his studies, graduating with first-class Honours in Actuarial Sciences at Essex University.
He spent part of the 2017 pre-season on trial with SkyBet League Two side Cheltenham Town without managing to secure a contract and eventually joined Guiseley AFC.
In February 2018, new FC Halifax Town manager Jamie Fullarton signed the 24-year-old on loan to help the Shaymen beat the drop.
Manager Sam Ricketts spoke to the club website and said: “Mike is a really good player. He is a real hot prospect we identified as a target really early on and I’ve been waiting to make a move for him since.
“We have beaten off lots of interest from others, including football league clubs, so I’m obviously delighted he has signed here at Wrexham”.
