....Jimmy McNeil as manager of their first
team squad and he will be assisted by experienced player-coach Paul Ellender.
Both
McNeil and Ellender came through the Scunthorpe United YTS route and were
offered and completed a year's professional contract before being released
following a change in United's first-team management.
McNeil's
football continued at Northern Premier League level, playing for Brigg Town and
Goole Town for four years, before an injury and work commitments, led him to
local football.
Ellender's
football saw him move to Gainsborough Trinity followed by spells at Altrincham
and Scarborough before moving on to Boston United where he captained them on to
the Conference title and promotion to the Football League in 2001/02.
This
was followed by spells at Chester City, Alfreton Town, Retford United and North
Ferriby United.
A
statement released by the Poachers said: "Both have worked together at
Bottesford in managing and coaching successful youth football teams for a
number of years.
"And,
as a result of both their enthusiasm and others within the club, an application
has been made to the Lincolnshire Football League to enter a development squad
into their competition next season to both provide an outlet for youth football
whilst closing the gap between youth and first-team football within the club.
"In
making this decision, the club's committee had decided that a 'fresh approach'
would be required if they were to achieve one of their development plan
initiatives of developing players in-house for their first team.
"The
club would once again place on record their thanks to previous manager John
Corbett and his assistant Leigh Herrick for their services to the club over the
previous eight years and wish them both well in their new pursuits at local
neighbours Gainsborough Trinity". |
