....join Evo-Stik Northern Premier League new boys Basford United.
Watson has put pen-to-paper on a two-year deal, despite interest from a host of clubs, and departs after a very successful three-and-a-half-years with the Ravens for a record undisclosed fee.
Watson has been in the Northern Premier League`s team of the year for two out of the last three seasons and was regarded by many as technically one of the best players in the Premier Division, so is seen as a massive coup for Basford, who won promotion last season.
Watson scored 33 goals for Coalville in the NPL Premier last season, including countless assists and will add to Basford`s attacking options.
After the reconstruction of the non-League Pyramid was released, Watson made it clear he wanted to stay in the Northern Premier League due to the excessive travelling he would have to do in Coalville`s new Southern League Central section.
He had his most prolific season with the Ravens last year, scoring over 30 goals in all competitions, playing a vital role in getting the team to two cup finals and winning the Leicestershire Challenge Cup.
He was also the star man in the play-off final game away at Shaw Lane AFC, going on a mazy run from the half way line before firing a shot into the far corner which instigated Coalville`s come back and eventual 3-1 victory.
Basford manager Martin Carruthers told his club`s website: “I am delighted with the signing of Nat. The club have shown a huge statement of intent with this signing. The club have worked tirelessly to get this deal over the line, none more so than Tom Brookbanks who was a key figure in making this happen.”
Basford chairman Chris Munroe was also pleased by the new arrival, stating: “I am delighted we have secured the signing of Nat Watson. It took a while to get this over the line, but we are relieved it is finally done and well done to all involved in securing another brilliant singing.”
Munroe`s opposite number at Coalville, Glyn Rennocks, added: “We would like to place on record our thanks and good wishes to Nathan as he leaves the club. Although, of course, we wanted to keep him, I have always said I will never stand in anyone's way if they want to leave for the right reasons and this deal also works for the club financially”. |
