The 30-year-old former England under-17/18 and under-19 international midfielder started his career with Nottingham Forest.

He made just the one senior appearance for Forest as well as a dozen on loan to the now-defunct Rushden & Diamonds before being released in March 2010 when he signed for Lincoln City.

He didn`t make an appearance for the Imps and joined Hinckley United in August 2010.

Spells with AFC Telford United, Ilkeston, Nuneaton Town and Gainsborough Trinity followed before he signed for Basford in March 2017, helping them to the NPL Division One South championship and promotion to the Premier Division in 2017/18.

Manager Martin Carruthers told https://www.ilkestontownfc.co.uk: “I’m absolutely delighted to have secure James Reid. It is a top signing for the club and a real statement of intent that shows we mean business this season. Reidy is a quality player who will add much-needed creativity and guile to an already talented squad. I have no doubt the supporters will be over the moon to see him back at the New Manor Ground”.
