Mannix
is a Liverpool academy product who was part of the squad that won the UEFA
Champions League in 2005, arguably the greatest Champions League final in
history!
The
midfielder was playing for Liverpool’s reserve side at just 15 years of age and
also regularly trained with the first team at the age of 16. He also
represented England at youth level 15 times.
Unfortunately,
a number of serious injuries hampered much of his progress and prevented what
could have been a long and illustrious career at Liverpool.
Despite
the injuries, Mannix was included in Liverpool’s 25-man squad for the 2005 UEFA
Champions League campaign that resulted in a dramatic comeback from 3-0 down to
AC Milan.
He
later had spells at Accrington Stanley, Chester City and Norwegian outfit
HamKam before moving into non-League football with Vauxhall Motors and Colwyn
Bay before having a memorable stay with Rylands` local neighbours Warrington
Town.
He
was in the Warrington side that reached the FA Cup Second Round in 2014/15,
assisting the winning goal to knock out League Two Exeter City along the way.
Mannix,
34, who also runs his own academy, is a UEFA A license coach and has had spells
as assistant manager with Clitheroe and more recently Bangor City in Wales.
Wellstead (pictured) is a familiar figure at the club, having been joint manager and player during Rylands`
inaugural season in the North West Counties League in 2018/19.
He
helped the club become Division One South champions and Division One champions
of champions.
Wellstead
has a long history within the NWCL and the Northern Premier League having
represented a number of clubs over the last 17 years including notable spells
with Runcorn Linnets, winning the NWCL Premier Division in 2017/18 as well as
ending last season with runaway leaders 1874 Northwich before the league was
ground to a stop due to the Coronavirus incident.
During
his last spell with the club Wellstead, also 34, started to work on his
coaching qualifications and brings a great insight and experience to some of
the young players within the club.
