....signing goalkeeper Dave Parton ahead of the 2018/19 season. Parton came through the Stoke City academy before entering the non-League system starting with Newcastle Town and then having spells with Altrincham, Hednesford Town and Nantwich Town before heading to Kidsgrove Athletic. At just 25 years of age Parton is seen by many as one of the best goalkeepers around the area and is sure to be a hit with Alport supporters. Parton told the club`s website: “It was a really tough decision to leave Kidsgrove but when I spoke to the manager about the plans for the club moving forward and the project that is going on here it was something that really excited me. I said from day one I wanted to compete at the top of whatever league I was in and I just felt with the team we have put together it was too good of an opportunity to turn down. The fanbase was, of course, another massive pull.” Parton`s arrival follows hot on the heels of the signing of former Hednesford skipper Darren Campion. Campion made four appearances for Alport last season when dual signing for the club towards the end of the campaign and played a big role in the play-off success. The 29-year-old has decided to make the move a more permanent one for 2018/19. Campion played over 200 games for Hednesford between 2010 and 2015. He took a break from football after appearing for AFC Telford United and Sutton Coldfield Town before linking up with the Pitmen for a second spell in February 2017. Whitchurch manager Luke Goddard said: "Obviously Camps is an experienced player who already knows how we do things here, so when we highlighted new recruits for this season he was one straight away we agreed we wanted to confirm. “Clearly he had some good offers to remain with clubs like Hednesford and others higher up the Pyramid than ourselves, but his circumstances with now living in Whitchurch, as well as the buzz around Alport, was ultimately a huge part in making the decision.
“He is a natural leader who can also be versatile in terms of position which is something we look at here as we attempt to build a strong competitive squad of about twenty players. I look forward to working with Camps over the coming season as we look to sustain Step 5 level". |
