The
centre-half left Newark in March and wanted to move to a club near to his home.
Robinson
told https://www.longeatonutd.co.uk:
“I have a baby on the way, so when the opportunity came about to play for Long
Eaton it was perfect because the club is local to me.
“I
know Adam Campbell, Ian Deakin and Craig Swinscoe share my ambitions to win
trophies and be part of a successful team, so I am looking forward to it.”
The
club’s facilities impressed Robinson, who previously played for the club early
on in his career.
He
added: “I went down to Grange Park on Tuesday to have a look around and it is
great, I used to play for Long Eaton when I was 17 years old and Mick Galloway
was in charge.
“It
has improved massively, it has the 4G turf and the pitch looks immaculate. It
is a really good setup and when you have a good home ground it makes your
Saturday’s much more enjoyable.”
Robinson
played 31 matches for Midland League title contenders Newark last season and
his performances in defence impressed Blues` manager Ian Deakin, who said: “We
are very happy to welcome Mitchell to the club - he is a player who has great
leadership qualities and ability.
“He
was one of the best defenders in the MFL last year and can play a number of
positions. He is a local lad and will add a lot of quality to the side.”
Robinson
is familiar with the coaching staff at Long Eaton, he worked with Campbell at
Stapleford Town in the 2017/18 and 2018/19 seasons and captained the side to
two titles and a cup victory.
Last
season Deakin and Swinscoe coached Robinson at Ilkeston Town before they left
the club.
Robinson
said: “I used to train with Ilkeston twice a week, but I never actually played
in the league. When the new management came in, it did not work out and I moved
on to Newark.”
Robinson
is a versatile player who is comfortable in midfield and defence. However, he
sees himself playing at centre-half for Long Eaton.
Robinson
said: “My strengths are winning headers and my physicality, so I think playing
at the back suits me better than in midfield”. |
