Chettle signs a one-year
deal at the Impact Arena.
Callum, the son of
ex-Nottingham Forest defender Steve Chettle, came through the youth ranks at
Nottingham Forest before joining Ilkeston FC in 2012, when he was just 15.
He became the Robins`
youngest ever first-team player at just 16.
A move to Nuneaton Borough
followed in July 2015, making 25 appearances, scoring 2 goals.
A string of stand-out
performances followed for Chettle during his time with Nuneaton and he soon
made his step up into the Football League, joining Peterborough in January 2016
on a two-year deal.
But first-team
opportunities were limited for Chettle during his time with Posh, playing just
22 games across 2016 to 2018. However, in January 2018, Chettle was loaned to National
League side AFC Fylde where he completed the remainder of the 2017/18 campaign.
Manager Billy Heath
told the club`s Arman Sharma: “We’ve known about Callum for a while and knew
about him during his time at Nuneaton. He is a really top talent, he got his
move to the football league with Peterborough, but it hasn’t worked out the way
he wanted during his time there.
“He is a creative
midfielder, can play in numerous positions across the midfield. Can play centre,
wide; can go into a more attacking role and also a sitting role. We’ve brought
him to the club for his quality, he is still a young lad and we want to
rejuvenate him.
“It is another
outstanding signing for us, another part of the jigsaw we were looking for. He
is a technically fantastic player and we are pleased to get him. The main thing
also for us was that Cal wanted to come to Alfreton, he had other options, but
he chose the Reds and we are delighted to have him on board”. |
