Busy Vics have signed experienced 33-year-old central defender Mark Ayres.
Ayres numbers Salford City, Ramsbottom United, Colne, Atherton Collieries, FC United of Manchester and Padiham amongst his former clubs.
While in a second spell with Ramsbottom in 2015, Ayres was advised to quit playing after collapsing after the final game of the 2014/15 season at home to Matlock Town and was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.
However, after taking time out, Ayres returned to playing and was with Vics` league rivals Padiham last term.
Vics` manager Steve Wilkes told the club`s Jamie Dewsbury: "Mark Ayres is another good signing for the football club. A very experienced centre-half who has got a very good pedigree behind him. Another player who I think the fans will fall in love with.
“We've now got a good complement of centre-halves, which can only be good. Really looking forward to working with Ayresy who I believe is brilliant around the dressing room and you need that if you're going to be hopefully challenging at the right end of the table". |
