The 21-year-old was a member of the first ever `quadruple` winning Curzon Ashton youth team in 2016/17, having previously been part of the academies at Manchester United and Oldham Athletic.

The Ashton-under-Lyne-based Butterworth moved to North West Counties League Premier Division side Chadderton in 2017 and has been an integral part of their side for the last three years, latterly under new Mossley boss Dave Fish.
