Evo-Stik Northern Premier League new boys Basford United secured a 3-2 home win against Vanarama National League North side Boston United on Thursday night.

 

Basford’s record signing Nathan Watson gave them the lead with just 26 seconds played, experienced striker Liam Hearn doubled that advantage in the 13th minute.

 

An un-named triallist reduced the arrears from the penalty spot following a foul on Jonathan Wafula, before James Reid’s free-kick restored the two-goal advantage minutes after the interval.

 

Wafula scored the Pilgrims second after a fine solo run.

 

Boston`s league rivals Bradford Park Avenue were held to a 1-1 draw at Hallmark Security League Premier Division Silsden AFC.

 

That well-known player, A Triallist, scored to give Avenue a half-time lead that Lee Spires cancelled out right near the end of the game.

 

North West Counties Division One North outfit Carlisle City were beaten 3-1 at home by one of Basford`s new league rivals, Workington AFC.

 

Jason Walker in the first half and then a Kieran Maguire brace – the first from the penalty spot – were the visiting marksmen.

 

Former Red, James Earl, netted City`s consolation.

 

Northern Premier League East side Frickley Athletic are `north of the border` and took on Lowland Leaguers East Stirlingshire.

 

Despite James Gray giving the Blues the lead, the home side ran out 3-1 winners.

 

Bostik League North side Aveley`s Parkside 3G hosted Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division FC Clacton which produced a 4-0 win for the hosts.

 

Clacton`s league rivals Haverhill Rovers also began their pre-season friendly fixtures with a defeat - 3-1 at home to Kershaw Leaguers Linton Granta.

 

Total Motion Midland League Premier Division Coventry Sphinx beat local side Burton United 4-0.

 

Sphinx`s goals came from Nathan McGarrity, Liam Rock an own goal and a triallist.

 

Toolstation Western League Premier Division Hengrove Athletic beat Somerset County League side AFC Brislington 3-0.

 

Goals from Brandon Feehely, Jacob O`Donnell and Luke Trowbridge won it for the hosts.

 

Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Division One side Hythe & Dibden went down 2-1 at home to Hampshire Leaguers Colden Common.

 

Southern Counties East League Premier Division new boys K Sports ran out 2-1 winners against Oakland Leopards from the USA with goals by Connor Morgan and Matt Gething.

 

Ebac Northern League First Division newcomers Whickham were beaten 3-2 by newly-promoted Second Division side Birtley Town.

 

Chad Collins and Joe Mole were the Whickham marksmen.
