Vanarama National League South club Hemel Hempstead Town have announced the appointment of Lee Bircham as their new manager.

Bircham will be assisted by former Hemel boss Steve Bateman.

 

The pair had an impressive season at Berkhamsted last season, finishing top of the Southern League Division One Central before the season was cut short.

 

On confirming the appointment, chairman Dave Boggins told https://www.hemelfc.com: "I am delighted that Lee and Steve have joined us. With an impressive ground, a 3G pitch and reduced ticket prices. I cannot wait for the new season to start."

 

Bircham has an impressive track record as a manager having led Bovingdon to their first ever Herts Senior County league title alongside the success he and Bateman had at Berkhamsted.

 

As a player, Bircham had spells with Bovingdon, Aylesbury United, Leverstock Green, Kings Langley, Beaconsfield SYCOB, Ruislip Manor, Fisher Athletic, Greenwich Borough and Berko.

 

The 43-year-old Bircham is from Hemel Hempstead and is extremely proud to manager of his home-town club.

 

He has also brought in his trusted right-hand man Fred Benning, who will assist with a number of first team duties.

 

Scott Daly will take up the role of strength and conditioning coach.

 

Daly has previously held roles at Queens Park Rangers and Oxford United and will be a valuable member of the backroom staff to ensure the players are at peak fitness throughout the season. 

 

Former Chelsea and Russian international Dmitri Kharine will continue in his role at the club as goalkeeping coach.
