After progressing
through the youth set-up at Bolton Wanderers, Lainton signed a professional
deal with the Trotters in 2011 but he was released in the summer of 2013.
In July of that
year, he signed for Bury and he played a part in the Shakers winning promotion
from League Two in 2014/15 after returning from a loan spell at Burton Albion.
At the end of the
following season, Lainton was released by Bury. However, the club decided to
re-sign him six months later and he made a number of appearances during the
latter half of the 2016/17 campaign.
Lainton also
featured once for Cheltenham Town during 2016/17 after joining on an emergency
loan deal, but he was released by Bury for a second time this summer, allowing
Vale to secure his services on a two-year deal in the summer of 2017.
Manager Sam Ricketts
told https://www.wrexhamafc.co.uk:
“I’m really pleased that Rob has chosen to come to Wrexham on loan for next
season.
“He’s a keeper with
really good ability. He has come through a Premiership academy at Bolton and
played league football through his career so far.
“It’s another part
of the jigsaw complete. It’s great to have another keeper through the door,
Christian Dibble and Rob will now be able to push each other during pre-season and in
training”. |
