The Shaymen have signed of England C captain Josh Staunton from National League South side Woking.

The 22-year-old, who has previously played for Gillingham, Charlton Athletic and Dagenham & Redbridge, is a versatile player and can play in a number of key roles.

His contribution to Woking was a significant one and led to his captaining England C in their recent game against Ireland.

Woking understood, and did not wish to stand in the way of the players` wish to play in the National League and the deal with FC Halifax is a good one for all parties.

Fullarton told https://fchalifaxtown.com: “I think great credit must go to the chairman for the signing of Josh. Such a signing coupled with the level and quality of players we have already brought in over the summer , hopefully gives our fans an insight into the work that has been going on behind the scenes and reflects the progress we are making which is due to the support of the chairman and everyone at the club who may not be at the coalface but are vital, enabling us to bring the likes of Josh , the current England C captain to the club.”

Staunton said on his move: It was a very hard decision to leave the club that I have grown real feelings for, but I felt it was important for me to stay full-time to give myself the best platform to push on. But I can`t thank the Woking board, fans and management enough for the kindness and support everyone has shown me since the day I signed for the Cards. The fans didn`t stop supporting all last year, even with the disappointments we served up for them on the pitch, and for that I will be forever grateful. I wish the club, Dowse and the team and the fans all the best for the upcoming season and hope you get back where you belong.

“Once again, a big thank you for everything throughout the year and good luck! I hope to pull on the red and white halves again in the future!

The Shaymen have also signed 21-year-old attacking player Mekhi Leacock-McLeod.

Leacock-McLeod started his career with Fulham and has had spells with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Glasgow Rangers, Ware, VCD Athletic, Eastleigh and most recently Accrington Stanley.

Fullarton said: “Mekhi will add another dimension to our attacking options. Having a good grounding coming through the Fulham system before moving onto Wolves, combined with his experience of playing this level with Eastleigh means this season we will see him, no doubt, establish himself as well as excite our fans.”

The third new arrival on Friday is defensive player Ryan Sellers from National League South side Wealdstone.

The 23-year-old played for the youth teams at Wingate & Finchley, Barnet and Bolton Wanderers before signing for Wycombe Wanders in the summer of 2015.

He spent a year at Adams Park before returning to Wingate, subsequently joining Wealdstone seventeen months ago, making 30 appearances for them.

Fullarton added: “When building a squad, as a manger, you're looking to develop a certain culture both on the pitch and in the dressing room...Ryan reflects the culture we are looking to establish with his character and approach infectious that means he will make a positive contribution in both these areas throughout the season”.
