Salford`s new league rivals Boreham Wood’s first pre-season outing of 2018 ended in a 2-1 defeat against a strong team representing Championship outfit Brentford.

Wood initially took the lead through a Morgan Ferrier penalty and continued to look solid in defence following the goal.

However, Brentford’s class eventually shone through, as they equalised on the brink of half-time through Ollie Watkins.

Luke Garrard’s side returned from the break and continued to match their visitors, but Lewis Macleod would give the Bees the lead shortly after the hour-mark.

League One Rochdale won 3-0 at Bower Fold against Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Stalybridge Celtic.

Goals from came from Calvin Andrew in the opening 45 minutes and then new signing Bradden Inman and Oliver Rathbone in the second period.

Evo-Stik Southern League Central side Hitchin Town`s annual pre-season game with now-League One Luton Town ended in a 6-2 win for the Hatters.

In front of a crowd of 788, Isaac Galliford and Trey Charles pulled two back for the Canaries in the final 15 minutes, but by then they were already 4-0 down and a Luke Gambin brace in the last 5 minutes made the final outcome 6-2.

Hitchin`s league rivals King`s Lynn Town hosted Championship side Norwich City at The Walks and the youthful Canaries ran out 2-1 winners.

Substitute Toby Hilliard converted a Ryan Hawkins centre to give Lynn the lead shortly after half-time before the Canaries hit back through Devonte Aransibia and Adam Idah to claim the spoils.

Another Southern League Central outfit, Redditch United, held a young Port Vale side to a 1-1 draw at the TRICO Stadium.

Dior Angus scored for the Valiants on his return to his former club, but a late Nyeko Sinclair header salvaged a draw for the hosts.

Redditch`s new league rivals Rushall Olympic enjoyed a good 2-1 win against a strong side from League One Walsall at Dales Lane.

Rushall took a 39th minute lead through new signing Justin Richards.

A triallist equalised for the Saddlers on 72 minutes, but an own goal from Nicky Devlin 8 minutes from time won it for the Pics.

A single Clark Greaves goal 5 minutes into the second half earned Championship side Sheffield United`s young team a 1-0 win at Evo-Stik Northern Premier League East outfit Tadcaster Albion.
