Bergin (pictured),
who was a youth player at Port Vale, joined the Grove on loan in 2015 before
signing permanently for the club a year later following his departure from
Newcastle Town.
However,
in November 2019, the defender left Kidsgrove to join North West Counties
League Premier Division neighbours Congleton Town, with him making 5 appearances
and scoring one goal against Newcastle Town in the Emirates FA Cup for the
Grove in the 2019/20 campaign.
Manager
Scott Dundas told press officer Richard Scott: “With James Butler, Richard
Duffy and Oliver Jepson leaving, centre-back is a place that we needed to
strengthen.
“I
had Bergin when I was at Newcastle Town, so I know all about his wand of a left
foot and, I am pleased that he has come back and signed for us.
"He
will be a great signing to play at centre back and at full-back.”
Additionally,
Dundas has brought in another centre half in the form of Spencer Gunnell, a
player who has played under Dundas at both Newcastle and Chasetown.
Dundas
added: “I put him as my captain at Chasetown as he had a tremendous pre-season
and we had five or six games where he was head and shoulders above anything we
had there.
“Unfortunately,
he ruptured his Achilles and, we all know how long that takes to get over. I
think he did it in 2017, so it has been a while for him.
"He
played against Leek Town for Kidsgrove last season which was pleasing for him
to get back in the fold. I'm pleased that he has come back on board with us. He
is a six-foot, big, strong, quick centre-half, so I'm really happy with that".
