Whyte joined Ashton in October 2019 from Bootle.

He had signed for Bootle from Burscough in the summer of 2019, having scored 35 times in 45 appearances in 2018/19.

He was previously a prolific marksman for St Helens Town, which earned him a move to Northern Premier League side Marine AFC in February 2015.

After an 18-month spell with the Crosby-based outfit, he signed for Skelmersdale United in November 2016.

In February 2017 he moved to Widnes.
