The 20-year-old 6`1” Bass made his first start for Pompey towards the end of last season in a 2-0 win over Peterborough United and then signed a new contract with the club.

He progressed through Portsmouth’s youth categories and first appeared on the club's bench in March 2015 at the age of 16

He was offered a one-year professional contract in April 2016 and made his full debut in a 3-2 defeat at Coventry City in the EFL Cup in August 2016.

He was then loaned out to Evo-Stik Southern League side Salisbury FC and made 37 appearances for Steve Claridge`s side in 2016/17

Torquay`s head coach Gary Owers told https://www.torquayunited.com: “It’s a great signing.

“I feel rather fortunate to get him, to be honest.

“He’s been in and around Portsmouth’s first-team squad and he is highly-rated. There was interest from other League clubs to try and sign him. Thankfully, Portsmouth trust us to look after him for the season and I think it could be a massive, massive signing for us.

“It’s not about age, it’s about opportunity. He’s not far away from the first team at Portsmouth and I think he is going to go on and have a very good career and this move is a part of his development. I look forward to seeing him in a Torquay shirt”.
