Ironton Adds Several New Citizens
Nick Ironton, manager of Southern League Division One Central club Welwyn Garden City, has furthered strengthened his squad with several new signings.

Ironton (pictured) has picked up experienced keeper Charlie Crowley to challenge for the goalkeeping spot.

 

Crowley who has experience with a number of clubs including Wingate & Finchley, Hayes & Yeading United, Potters Bar Town and most recently, Isthmian League South Central outfit Waltham Abbey.

 

Also from Waltham Abbey comes young defender Caleb Steele, who scored in the Citizen’s 4-0 away win in their pre-season game at Oxhey Jets.

 

Versatile defender Lee Close has also re-signed.

 

Close re-joined the Citizens last season after a spell with Barton Rovers, having played in their Spartan South Midlands League title-winning side a couple of seasons before.

 

The 27-year-old adaptable defender or midfielder, had re-joined Welwyn Garden in June 2019, having spent the second half of the previous season with their Southern Division One Central rivals.

 

He also numbers Boreham Wood, Potters Bar Town and AFC Dunstable amongst his other former clubs.

 

Twenty-year-old forward Scott Knight was formerly with Essex Senior League Hoddesdon Town, as was defender Rob Banks, also 20, and Harrison Cage, a 20-year-old midfielder who joined having worked his way up through the ranks to the senior side at Hoddesdon.

 

Sam Ready, a young defender who can also step into midfield, joins from SSML Division Two outfit Codicote, who he signed for after spells at Hoddesdon.

 

He represented Hertfordshire at under-18 level whilst also playing for Ware at under-23 level.
