Five New Signings For Ashton United
Vanarama National League North newcomers Ashton United have announced the signing of five new signings.

Moving to Hurst Cross from the JD Welsh Premier is 30-year-old striker Craig Hobson.

 

He is an experienced striker whose most recent club was Aberystwyth Town.

 

He has previously played for Stockport County, Lincoln City and Guiseley AFC before notching goals for Chester FC and Altrincham in the National League

 

Another experienced arrival is defender Darren Thornton, who returns to Tameside from former Evo-Stik Northern Premier League rivals Nantwich Town.

 

The 30-year-old first joined the Dabbers in the summer of 2015 from Ashton`s neighbours Curzon Ashton.

 

Originally with Clitheroe and Hyde United, he left in February 2016 for Bradford Park Avenue due to re-locating to Yorkshire and the switched to Ossett Albion in September 2016 before swiftly re-joining Nantwich.

 

Midfielder Scott Sephton is another with a vast amount of non-League experience.

 

He joins the club having most recently spent time with NPL North side Trafford.

 

He joined Trafford in June 2015 from Hallmark Security League side Congleton Town, having previously served Leigh Genesis, Prescot Cables and Porthmadog.

 

Oliver Crowley is a young full-back who was on the books at new league rivals FC United of Manchester.

 

Crowley came through the Everton academy before transferring to Watford’s youth system.

 

He joined Bacup Borough and Rossendale Borough for a while, before joining Stalybridge Celtic in 2014, where he would make 65 appearances between 2014 and 2017.

 

Curtis Jones is a 24-year-old defender who joins after having previously played for Southport in the National League North.

 

Jones joined Port in May 2017 having made 54 appearances for Nantwich Town the previous season.

 

His career began as a youth player at Stockport County before joining Glasgow Celtic, spending time in their under-21 team.

 

He has also been with Bristol City, Welsh Premier side The New Saints, Livingstone, Mossley AFC and Abbey Hey.
