It was a sunny July Tuesday evening that would be the backdrop for Giuseppe Sole as he led Vanarama National League South Woking out in his Appreciation Match against SkyBet League One side AFC Wimbledon.

A day that was full of remembrance for a man who has been in the Cards side for many years after making 352 games and scoring 111 goals in his time with the club.

With the Dons being three leagues higher than the home side, it would be an interesting test for the club as they looked to bow Sole out accordingly.

But sadly, the final score of Woking 1 AFC Wimbledon 3 didn`t turn out quite how Cards fans would`ve liked, but it was still an appropriate send-off nonetheless.

Plenty of opportunities were given to new signings and academy graduates alike for the home side with the likes of striker Duane Ofori-Acheampong, full-back Josh Casey and centre-half Jack Cook among others who were all given an opportunity to show manager Alan Dowson and Cards fans what they can do.

Woking`s only goal came in the 78th minute.

A great ball down the left-hand side saw the impressive Nic Bignall involved not for the first time since coming on, as he broke through the young Wimbledon defence before squaring the ball back Paul Hodges to finish coolly past Nick Tzanev first-time in the Wimbledon goal.

Torquay United, who came down with Woking, were beaten 4-1 at Plainmoor by League Two side Forest Green Rovers.

Goals from Carl Winchester, Theo Archibald and Recce Brown, as well as an own goal, wrapped up a comfortable victory for Forest Green.

Samir Nabi replied for the Gulls.

Torquay`s new league rivals Bath City won 6-0 at Toolstation Western League neighbours Keynsham Town on their excellent 3G surface.

Dan Ball lashed home a 20-yarder to give City the lead and they added to that tally with goals from Ryan Brunt with two, Joe Raynes with a great 25-yard strike, Adam Mann and Frankie Artus, who completed the scoring with a 20-yard shot a couple of minutes from time.

Gloucester City progressed to the final of the Severn Sport Shield with two well taken goals from Joe Hanks and Dan King against Southern League West side Slimbridge.

Another National League South side, Welling United, won 4-2 at Bostik South East Whyteleafe.

Bradley Goldberg gave the Wings the lead and their other goals were all scored by triallists.

St Albans City were downed 3-1 at Clarence Park by League Two Stevenage.

Zane Banton had equalised for the Saints 8 minutes into the second half before Boro grabbed two more to win it.

Eastbourne Borough beat Southern Combination outfit Langney Wanderers 5-2.

Boro`s goals came from Lloyd Dawes, Sergio Torres, Michael West, Tyler Pearson and a triallist.

National League North side Guiseley AFC beat League One Bradford City 2-1 at Nethermoor.

First-year pro Reece Powell headed the Bantams in front a minute into the second half.

But Guiseley were level midway through the half with a close-range finish from Will Hatfield.

And they claimed the spoils with two minutes left as Scott Smith fired a low angled shot past trialist keeper Ryan Huddart.

However, Guiseley`s new league rivals York City crashed to a 7-1 defeat in at Bootham Crescent against another League One outfit, Barnsley.

Against a visiting side that included nineteen players from last season’s Championship relegation campaign, City opened the scoring on 20 minutes when Jon Parkin’s chipped cross into the six-yard box was chested in by Jake Wright.

But three visitors’ goals in the space of 4 minutes turned the game on its head.

First, on 36 minutes, Kieffer Moore spun Dan Parslow before his shot was parried by Bartlett straight to Tom Bradshaw, who tapped in.

The Tykes added a second on the counter-attack with Bradshaw’s right-wing cross turned in first-time by Brad Potts and a third when Bartlett could only claw Ryan Hedges’ chip back to Moore, who netted from a matter of inches.

Liam Lindsey and Mamdou Thiam hit the bar either side of half-time before Victor Adeboyejo’s 20-yard drive beat Bartlett at his near post just before the hour.

A blatant handball by Hamza Bencherif at the far post from Thiam’s corner then saw George Moncur convert the resulting penalty.

Thiam curled in from the edge of the box to made it 6-1 and Dylan Mottley-Henry added a seventh after being found all alone in the home box.

A goal from Andy Williams 9 minutes into the second half saw League Two side Northampton Town win 1-0 at St James`s Park against Buildbase FA Trophy winners Brackley Town.

Brackley`s new National League North rivals Chester FC`s management duo Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley took their team to one of their former clubs, Evo-Stik Northern Premier League West Ramsbottom United, and won 1-0.

James McQuilkin, Daniel Udoh, Ellis Deeney and Adam Dawson got the goals.

The Bucks` new league rivals, Ashton United, went down 3-1 at Hurst Cross to League Two neighbours Oldham Athletic.

It was that star man again – A Triallist – who scored Ashton`s consolation from the spot.

Curzon Ashton were held to a 1-1 draw at the Wright Robinson Sports College by Northern Premier Leaguers Buxton.

Joe Guest gave Curzon an early 5th minute lead, but the Bucks levelled through Gary Gee.

Frank Mulhern, Paul Turnbull, Matty Warburton, Darren Stephenson, Sam Walker and Nyal Bell were the County marksmen.

A triallist opened Port`s account after 42 minutes and Rick Smith added a second 14 minutes from time.

Harrogate Town, who moved up to the National League at the end of last season, won 3-0 against Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division side Knaresborough Town at The CNG Stadium.

Dom Knowles converted from close range on the stroke of half-time before that man - A Triallist - finished off Jack Emmett's low cross in the 71st minute.

The pick of the goals was scored by another triallist in the 86th minute, glancing home Jack Muldoon's cross.

Salford City, who came up with Harrogate, won 2-1 at Northern Premier League Nantwich Town.

A late 90th minute goal from Jake Beesley sealed the Ammies` win after Lois Maynard`s first half opener had been cancelled out by Jack Higginbotham 6 minutes before time.

League One Gillingham overcame National League side Bromley 5-1 at Hayes Lane.

Callum Reilly opened with the scoring within 3 minutes with an accurate low shot before Brandon Hanlan secured a second goal with an excellent right-footed effort from a tight angle.

Bromley pulled one back before the break through George Porter, but Josh Parker was quick to restore the two-goal deficit following the interval, latching onto Elliott List’s cross to smash home a shot from eight yards.

List added a fourth himself with a cool finish before Regan Charles-Cook added a fifth with an excellent effort from the edge of the box.

That man again – A Triallist – bagged the other for the Bluebirds.

Barrow`s league rivals Boreham Wood ran out 1-0 winners against Southern League Central side Hitchin Town.

Morgan Ferrier scored for the second time in as many matches, netting a coolly slotted penalty in the first half.

FC Halifax Town recorded a resounding 7-1 win over Northern Premier League West neighbours Brighouse Town at the Yorkshire Payments Stadium.

Town started the game well and new signing Dayle Southwell got the first goal of the game on 9 minutes with a header.

Gabriel Johnson equalised with neat finish, but it didn’t take long for Southwell to double his tally and put Town ahead for the second time.

Ben Tomlinson looked to make it 3-1 just before the break but his shot was parried into the path of Cameron King and he made no mistake with the rebound.

Then in the 76th minute, the Shaymen started a period of three goals in 3 minutes.

First Jordan Preston skipped past a couple of defenders and drilled his show into the bottom corner.

Then a substitute triallist capitalised on a Kosylo shot rebounding off the goalkeeper to make it 5-1.

Number six was to follow from Mekhi McLeod and the triallist doubled his tally with the seventh for the Shaymen with another powerful shot in injury time.
