Having impressed since coming to the Clarets on-trial - including scoring against Grays Athletic in Tuesday night's hastily-arranged friendly – the club agreed terms with well-travelled Murphy for the upcoming 2018/19 season.

Murphy began his career with AFC Wimbledon before switching sides in London to Arsenal.

The 6`1” striker remained with Arsenal, albeit apart from two loan spells at Brentford and Preston North End, between 2009 and 2012.

The 27-year-old traded English football for Dutch football when he signed for Telstar in June 2012, before signing for Dagenham & Redbridge and Oldham Athletic, with loan spells at Crawley Town and back at AFC Wimbledon.

The former Republic of Ireland and England Youth international moved to Forest Green Rovers in July 2016 but, with first-team chances limited, the striker opted for temporary moves to York City, Crawley and Torquay United, before eventually joining Gillingham in January 2018.
