Defender
Ben Sampayo (pictured) and young forward Tom Blackwell were both named on the bench for
the Gulls after joining late.
Sampayo
is an experienced 27-year-old who joins from league rivals Heybridge Swifts
where he had been since January after returning to Scraley Road from Isthmian
Premier outfit Bishop`s Stortford.
He
had returned to the Blues for a second spell in February 2019.
He
was originally a member of the Chelsea squad that won the FA Youth Cup in 2010.
After
leaving Chelsea in June 2011 he joined Brighton where he made one first team
appearance in an FA Cup tie against Wrexham in January 2012.
His
first spell with Stortford was in the later stages of the 2012/13 campaign - the
club’s last season in the Conference North.
He
made 10 appearances for Stortford and then had a spell with Chelmsford City
before going up to Scotland to Morton.
His
time north of the border was curtailed by a serious injury and he eventually
joined Dover Athletic, Hemel Hempstead Town and Brentwood Town in 2016/17 and
then played for Heybridge and was part of the team that had a great run into
the First Round of the FA Cup.
He
then had spells with East Thurrock United and Aveley before arriving at the
ProKit (UK) Stadium.
Blackwell
joins the Gulls on loan from Vanarama National League South side Chelmsford
City.
The
young striker joined the Clarets from Canvey`s league rivals Coggeshall Town a
few weeks ago after being with them since the age of 8.
During
2019/20, he spent time out on loan at Long Melford and Stanway Rovers in the
Thurlow Nunn League. |
