The 20-year-old leaves the Yellows without playing competitively for them, having signed in August 2020.

Wharton signed for FC United of Manchester in May 2019, shortly after the Reds were relegated from the Vanarama National League North having been released by Tranmere Rovers at the end of the 2018/19 season.

He then switched to league rivals Atherton Collieries in December 2019 and then briefly to Warrington.

He came from the youth ranks at Prenton Park and helped Tranmere to an FA Youth Cup third round tie against Everton a couple of years ago.

He signed his first pro contract while still a scholar and had his first full campaign as a pro in 2018/19 and made one appearance in the EFL Trophy away at Shrewsbury Town in October 2018, but he has enjoyed senior experience in non-League football with loan spells at Colwyn Bay, Marine AFC and Stalybridge Celtic, where he returned for a second spell in January 2019 for the rest of the 2018/19 season.
