Sam
Jones joins the Poppies from National League promotion winners Harrogate Town.
The
29-year-old signed for Harrogate Town in July 2019 after being released by
League One side Shrewsbury Town.
He
enjoyed a remarkable rise up the football Pyramid. Having spent his younger
years at Leeds United, where he was capped for Wales at under-19 level, he
joined then-Northern Counties East side Retford United in 2013 and then
switched to Heanor Town, where he finished the 2014/15 season as top scorer and
was named supporters` player of the year.
The
6`2” frontman was soon snapped up by National League North side Alfreton Town,
where 17 goals in 41 appearances saw him again move up the leagues, with
National League Gateshead his next destination.
He
hit double figures in his spell at the International Stadium, before joining
League Two Grimsby in January 2017 and again reaching double figures for goals.
A
year later and he made another step up, this time to Shrewsbury, although he
made just 5 appearances for the Shrews and had a loan spell at Cheltenham Town. |
