Two More Added To Gateshead Squad

Vanarama National League club Gateshead have signed midfielders Cameron Salkeld and Lewis Maloney on one-year deals.

Nineteen-year-old winger Salkeld, previously with Carlisle United, spent time on loan with Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Whitby Town and Scottish outfit Annan Athletic last season and has been on trial with the Heed since the start of pre-season.

A former Middlesbrough under-23 midfielder, Maloney has been training with Steve Watson`s side since last season and has now secured a contract at the International Stadium.

After signing, the 23-year-old Teessider told https://www.gateshead-fc.com: “I`m buzzing to finally get it over the line and be back in full-time football. It`s what I`ve wanted since I first came here and I can`t wait to get started.”

Low Fell-born Salkeld, who can operate on either wing, made two appearances for Carlisle in the EFL Trophy during the 2016/17 season, grabbing a goal and an assist against Fleetwood Town and Blackburn Rovers respectively.

Now the teenager is delighted to be back on Tyneside playing for his home-town club.

“It`s great to be back here at Gateshead,” Salkeld admitted. “I played for the boys club when I was younger, before joining Newcastle United.

“I`m a local lad and I know a lot about the club. I went down as a supporter to Wembley with Gateshead, so I`m really happy to sign here”.
