Maxwell
began his career as a youth player at Chelsea before moving onto Crystal Palace
and Reading in 1999.
The
37-year-old was a midfielder during his lengthy playing career and was most
recently player-manager of Essex Senior League side Walthamstow.
Belfast-born
Maxwell previously played in the Scottish League for Hamilton Academical and
Raith Rovers as well as a number of non-League teams (making 3 appearances for
Braintree in 2007) in England.
He
has also represented Northern Ireland national at under-21 level.
Maxwell
will be helped by another former player - 33-year-old Nicky Symons - as his
assistant.
Symons
made 119 appearances for the Iron, scoring 4 goals, including an memorable
strike from the half-way line at Woking.
Symons
was a part of Rod Stringer's 2011 Conference South championship winning side
and remained at the club for three years as they established itself at the
highest level in non-League football.
