Maxwell began his career as a youth player at Chelsea before moving onto Crystal Palace and Reading in 1999.

The 37-year-old was a midfielder during his lengthy playing career and was most recently player-manager of Essex Senior League side Walthamstow.

Belfast-born Maxwell previously played in the Scottish League for Hamilton Academical and Raith Rovers as well as a number of non-League teams (making 3 appearances for Braintree in 2007) in England.

He has also represented Northern Ireland national at under-21 level.

Maxwell will be helped by another former player - 33-year-old Nicky Symons - as his assistant.

Symons made 119 appearances for the Iron, scoring 4 goals, including an memorable strike from the half-way line at Woking.

Symons was a part of Rod Stringer's 2011 Conference South championship winning side and remained at the club for three years as they established itself at the highest level in non-League football.
