Payne
was one of ten youngsters to be offered first-year scholarships with Norwich
City in July 2016.
In
June 2018, he signed his first professional contract with the Canaries and was called
up to the first team bench for the away clash with Sheffield Wednesday in November
2018 due to an injury crisis and lack of homegrown players.
He
signed a new one-year deal with City in February 2019 and in August 2019 joined
King`s Lynn Town on a season-long loan ahead of their Vanarama National League
North campaign.
He
made 25 appearances, scoring 3 goals, before the season was curtailed due to
the Coronavirus outbreak but Lynn were declared winners of the National League North,
on a points-per-game basis and would be promoted into the National League.
However,
Payne was released shortly afterwards by Norwich after 12 years with the club.
He
signed for National League South outfit Braintree Town in the summer but left
the Iron at the end of October.
