It was a very, very busy Saturday for pre-season games - here`s the second round-up....

Two first half goals from Lewis Archer paved the way for a comfortable victory for Northern Premier League hosts Rushall Olympic at a sun-drenched Dales Lane against Southern League Premier Division Central side Barwell.

 

It took 28 minutes for the first goal to arrive when Simeon Maye slipped in a fine pass, inside the full back, and Archer ran on to it to finish confidently past the keeper.

 

A minute before the interval the Pics doubled their lead and it was that man Archer who finished off another excellent passing move.

 

The scoring was completed 3 minutes from time when Sam Whittall finished off another fine move, involving Josh Webb and Danny Waldron, side-stepping a defender, and firing home to complete an excellent afternoon`s work for the home side.

 

Rushall`s new league rivals Basford United ran out 3-2 winners at Northern Premier League East side Carlton Town.

 

Carlton took an early lead, Sammy Ile rounding Kieran Preston to score following a poor back pass.

 

Basford levelled just after the half-hour mark, Harry Wakefield heading in from Lewis Carr's cross

 

Two minutes later they were ahead as Kieran Fenton hammered in a superb free-kick from 20 yards.

 

Thirteen minutes from time an own goal extended Basford's lead, the ball deflected in from a low cross, and 2 minutes later Luke Smithson replied for Carlton with a shot from 12 yards.

 

Barwell`s league rivals Stourbridge were beaten 2-1 at Total Motion Midland League Premier Division AFC Wulfrunians.

 

New signing Rob Thompson-Brown gave the Glassboys a first half lead from 25 yards.

 

Jordan Broome equalised and then Michael Nelson converted a penalty to win it for the hosts in the second period.

 

Bostik League North side AFC Sudbury continued their pre-season build up with the visit of Bostik Premier outfit Harlow Town to the King's Marsh Stadium.

 

It ended in a 3-1 defeat to the home side, Jordan Blackwell being the AFC scorer, Syrus Gordon, Tim Obisanya and Charlie Weatherhead for the Hawks.

 

Bostik Premier newcomers AFC Hornchurch opened their pre-season schedule with a 1-0 win over Essex Senior League side Hullbridge Sports,

 

Former Dulwich Hamlet striker Dumebi Dumaka scored the only goal 5 minutes into the second half following good work by Theo Fairweather-Johnson.

 

The Urchins` new league rivals, Brightlingsea Regent, went down 3-1 at home to SkyBet Championship Ipswich Town.

 

Jack Lankester netted twice for the Tractor Boys and Armando Dobra once after new signing George Keys had given Regent an early lead.

 

Another Bostik Premier side, Margate, shared a 3-3 thriller with League One Gillingham at Hartsdown Park.

 

Liam Nash struck a couple of clinical finishes for Gate, either side of a great effort from Conor Wilkinson.

 

Northern Premier League East club Frickley Athletic edged a close encounter at Muglet Lane against Toolstation Northern Counties East Leaguers Maltby Main by the odd goal in seven.

 

With an ex-Frickley front pairing of Danny Frost and Steve Hopewell, Main gave the Blues a good test and a spirited game gave both sides a decent pre-season run out.

 

Tyler Walton opened the scoring for the visitors in just the 3rd minute from 20 yards.

 

Frost netted the equaliser 2 minutes later and in the 9th minute, Hopewell gave Main the lead.

 

James Gray to made it 2-2 with only 25 minutes gone on the clock and Jacob Hazel put Frickley ahead 5 minutes before the break.

 

On 66 minutes, Mark Carroll lashed in Main’s third to get them back on level terms, but Gavin Allott won it for the Blues 7 minutes later.

 

Southern League Division One South side Aylesbury FC struck five goals past Spartan South Midlands League new boys Arlesey Town at Cedars School in Leighton Buzzard.

 

A brace from Harry Scott, a free-kick from Aaron King along with a Jordan Jenkins header and an own goal were enough to see off a spirited Arlesey side who were relegated at the end of last season.

 

Bostik North side Canvey Island went down 2-1 at home to Vanarama National League South outfit East Thurrock United.

 

After a goalless opening half, Jordan Cox gave the Gulls a 55th minute lead.

 

Danillo Dadamo fires home from the left to equalise for the Rocks and Gabe Kelluh won it for the visitors.

 

East Thurrock`s new league rivals Havant & Waterlooville secured a 5-2 win over Sydenhams Football League (Wessex) Premier side Horndean at Westleigh Park.

 

Two second half efforts from Alfie Pavey, including one from the penalty spot, was enough for the Hawks to secure victory.

The Hawks went into the break 2-1 up before being pegged back level early in the second half, prompting gaffer Lee Bradbury to change the entire team in an effort to gain the win which would reap it’s benefits with Pavey’s double and Marley Ridge’s late strike meaning the Hawks got past their tricky opponents.

 

National League North returnees Altrincham ran out 6-0 winners in Douglas against an Isle of Man XI in a game that kicked off in the early evening.

 

Jordan Hulme hit a hat-trick with other goals from Sean Miller, Tom Peers and trialist Elliot Rokka.

 

National League club Leyton Orient were involved in a thriller against Benfica B on their pre-season trip to Portugal.

 

Goals from new signing James Alabi, David Mooney, James Brophy and Macauley Bonne weren`t quite enough for Justin Edinburgh`s men as the famous hosts ran out 5-4 winners.

 

Southern League Premier Division South Dorchester Town won 2-0 at South West Peninsula Leaguers Saltash United.

 

Goals from a left-sided midfield trialist and Ben Morris in either half handed Dorchester victory.

 

National League North new boys Ashton United were beaten 5-1 at Hurst Cross by League Two newcomers Macclesfield Town.

 

A brace from Harry Smith was added to by strikes from Danny Whitaker, Nathan Blissett and an unnamed trialist, as Mark Yates’ side produced a clinical display - Nic Evangelinos getting the hosts` consolation.

 

A young side from the Silkmen`s new league rivals Northampton Town shared an entertaining 2-2 draw with United Counties League Premier Division hosts Wellingborough Town in the searing midday sun.

 

Adam Speight and Daniel Uche were the Doughboys on target at the Dog & Duck.

 

The Doughboy`s league rivals Wisbech Town were beaten 3-0 at home by Southern League Premier Division Central side Kettering Town.

 

Goals came from Aaron O'Connor with two and Linden Meikle for the Poppies.

 

Kettering`s new league rivals Needham Market won 2-1 at Thurlow Nunn Leaguers Long Melford.

 

Scott Sloots for the hosts and two for Adam Mills for the Marketmen.

 

Southern League Division Onde South new boys Melksham Town were on the end of a 6-0 spanking by a strong League One Bristol Rovers side.

 

Kyle Bennett netted a hat-trick in the 2nd, 22nd and 24th minutes, Ellis Harrison bagged a second half brace and Tom Nicholls added the other.

 

Meanwhile, Rovers` development side overcame Melksham`s new league rivals Yate Town 2-1.

 

The hosts took the lead early in the second half through a Josh Ford header, but the game was turned around on 65 minutes when a trialist scored a 30-yard screamer, before under-18s sub Zain Walker stabbed home the winner from close range 6 minutes later.

 

Northern Premier League Hednesford Town played out an entertaining goalless draw with League Two side Mansfield Town in the first home pre-season fixture of the summer.

 

Northern Premier League East side Stamford AFC won 3-1 at United Counties League Division One Melton Town.

 

The Daniels` goals came from Eliot Putman, Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson and a penalty converted by Liam Adams.

 

And Bostik South Central side Northwood enjoyed a great day as they entertained a youthful Chelsea side at Chestnut Avenue.

 

A goal from James Ewington eventually proved enough to earn Woods the inaugural Peter Barry Trophy against the Premier League club`s development side.
