While on trial, Olley scored a hat-trick for Steve Watson`s side in a behind-closed-doors practice match last Thursday before scoring a brace in the pre-season opener against Ebac Northern League side Newcastle Benfield in a 3-1 win.

And straight after the final whistle, the 22-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Heed.

Olly started his career with Gateshead`s neighbours Newcastle United, where he was on the books from 2004 until 2015.

Upon leaving St James`s Park, Olley signed for Hull City and made one senior appearance in a 3-1 Capital One Cup win over Exeter City in August 2016.

He was released by the Tigers at the end of last season.
