The
28-year-old returned for his third spell with Chester from Chorley in May 2018.
A
speedy attacking player, he had two loan spells with the Blues during the
2014/15 campaign under Steve Burr.
He
quickly became a favourite with his pace and skill – scoring 4 goals in 25
appearances.
His
loan move to Chester was from Fleetwood Town, who then released him in 2015.
He
made a move to AFC Fylde and was part of the side that gained promotion to the
National League, scoring 9 goals in 73 games for the Coasters.
Hughes
has made 6 appearances from the bench this term for the Blues and has played 74
times for the club so far across three spells, scoring 13 times.
Joint
manager Anthony Johnson told https://www.chesterfc.com: “Matty has had a horrific
time over the last couple of years with various injuries which has meant his
playing time has been limited.
“He
came to see us and asked if he could go out and play games, as at this moment
he was only getting small amounts of time on the pitch.
“That
just shows the character and hunger of the lad that he’s determined to get back
to where he was two years ago. Lancaster are doing well in the league below and
play in a way that will suit Matty down to the ground.
“Hopefully
he can go there and find the best version of Matty Hughes and then come back to
Chester absolutely flying”.
