Involving National League teams....

 

Hartlepool United ran out 4-0 winners at Ebac Northern League side Shildon.

 

New striker Luke James marked his first start with a goal – the frontman netted Pools’ third at Dean Street.

 

Lewis Hawkins opened the scoring on 26 minutes, lobbing in from 25 yards after a defensive mistake.

 

It was 2-0 within 60 seconds as Jake Cassidy pounced from close range to net a goal on return to the side. Then, just before the break, James got his first goal back in blue and white as he tapped home after a Cassidy effort was parried by Shildon `keeper Shaun Newbrook.

 

Ebbsfleet United eased to victory over National League South side Eastbourne Borough, although it needed a late goal to decide the game.

 

Fleet took a 28th minute lead through Darren McQueen.

 

But on 64 minutes, Boro were awarded a penalty which Yemi Odubade duly converted.

 

Sean Shields netted the 82nd minute winner for Fleet.

 

Eastleigh shared a 1-1 draw with Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South side Basingstoke Town at the Camrose.

 

Having fallen behind to a first half Charlie Kennedy strike, Eastleigh hit back on the hour-mark when Mark Yeates’ cross was headed home by Ben Williamson.

 

Port Vale boss Neil Aspin returned to his former club FC Halifax Town and saw his side secure their first win of their pre-season campaign with a 3-2 victory at The MBI Shay Stadium.

 

But Vale fell a goal behind with just 15 minutes on the clock. Niall Mahrer collected the ball 20 yards out, and his curling effort flew into the top corner leaving Scott Brown with no chance.

 

Tom Pope equalised just before the half-hour mark and David Worrall put the visitors ahead shortly after the break.

 

Worrall made it 3-1 just 3 minutes later before a trialist reduced the arrears 2 minutes from time.

 

The Shaymen`s Yorkshire neighbours and new league rivals, Harrogate Town, beat Evo-Stik Northern Premier League West side Brighouse Town 3-1 at the CNG Stadium.

 

Aaron Williams first two goals for Town and a late strike from Dom Knowles secured Town another impressive win, despite going behind to an Aaron Martin effort early on.

 

Aldershot Town went down 3-0 at the EBB Stadium to League One Oxford United.

 

Two goals in 2 minutes saw the Shots, again comprising a number of trialists, go 2-0 down in the 40th minute.

 

A free-kick, taken by Tony McMahon, flew deep towards the far post, where John Mousinho’s header was parried by the trialist goalkeeper.

 

However, the rebound found Curtis Nelson in the box, and his strike found the net.

 

Oxford increased their lead within a minute when Jon Obika raced through to score.

 

The second half saw The Shots conceded a third, as Cameron Brannagan’s chip over the home defence reached James Henry, whose goalward header was partially blocked by a trialist goalkeeper only for the ball to go over the line.

 

Wrexham shared a 2-2 draw with JD Welsh Premier side Bangor City.

 

Luke Young gave the visitors a 20th minute lead but that was short lived as Yalany Baio was brought down in the box and Tom Field slotted past the Dragons` trialist keeper.

 

Bangor were then reduced to ten-men within 10 minutes of the restart, Baio being felled by Manny Smith but reacted by throwing the ball into the face of the Dragons’ man, the referee brandishing a straight red card, only for Bangor to be allowed to send on a replacement to ensure it remained 11 v 11.

 

The home side who went ahead on 70 minutes when Alex Darlington hammered a volley in to the far corner.

 

But on 83 minutes, Mike Fondop met Leo Smith’s cross with a powerful header that cannoned home off the inside of the base of the post to make it 2-2.

 

Bromley edged out Premier League Crystal Palace 1-0 at Hayes Lane.

 

A late Sean Robertson own goal proved the difference against a young side Palace side.

 

League new boys Chesterfield sealed a comfortable 4-0 win at Northern Preier League newcomers Gainsborough Trinity.

 

England World Cup star Harry Maguire was in attendance to watch his brothers Laurence and Joe in action for the Spireites and Trinity respectively.

 

Gozie Ugwu’s goal separated the sides at the break, but the Spireites took full control in the second half with goals from Liam McAlinden, Zavon Hines and Laurence Maguire.

 

Barnet, who came down from League Two with Chesterfield, had a comfortable 7-1 win at Bostik North side Maldon & Tiptree.

 

Ephron Mason-Clark, Jack Barham, Wes Fonguck with two, trialists with two and an own goal for the Bees.

 

Wright netted the Jammers` consolation.

 

Dagenham & Redbridge shared a 1-1 draw with League One Colchester United at Victoria Road.

 

Colchester trailed for more than an hour to Michael Cheek's free-kick, scored just before the midway point of the first half before Diaz Wright popped up with an equaliser 5 minutes from time.

 

Newly-promoted Havant & Waterlooville ran out 2-1 winners at Southern League Division One South side AFC Totton.

 

An 88th minute Dan Strugnell header won it for the Hawks after Alfie Pavey had cancelled out Stuart Green`s 19th minute penalty for the Stags.

 

Maidstone United were beaten 2-1 at the Gallagher Stadium by a Brentford XI.

 

Shamir Mullings scored the Stones reply.

 

Involving National League South sides.....

 

Torquay United, relegated from the National League at the end of last season, went down to a 1-0 defeat at Plainmoor to League One neighbours Plymouth Argyle.

 

A Graham Carey goal just after the hour-mark was enough to see off a decent performance from the Gulls.

 

Braintree Town won 4-2 at Bostik League North side AFC Sudbury.

 

Sudbury took the lead in the 20th minute after they capitalised on an under-hit back pass and Panashe Mundawarara scored to put them ahead.

 

However, the Iron drew level on 35 minutes when striker Dan Thompson got clear of the Sudbury back line and chipped the keeper.

 

Having got on level terms, they didn’t have to wait long to go ahead as, within 60 seconds, a powerful shot from Mo Bettamer flew into the bottom corner.

 

The third Iron goal came on 48 minutes when Reece Grant latched on to a neat ball forward from Irnti Rapai drilled it into the back of the net.

 

It became 4-1 just before the hour-mark, with Bettamer on target this time when he headed home at the near-post from a corner by Luke Allen.

 

The Iron`s lead was trimmed back when Ollie Gravett scored to make it 4-2.

 

Weston-super-Mare beat League One Bristol Rovers` development squad 3-1 at the Woodspring Stadium.

 

Weston's Gethyn Hill was the star man, netting a hat-trick, two within the first 15 minutes and an excellent chip in the second half to complete his triple.

 

Rovers` reply came from a trialist.

 

Chippenham Town won 2-0 at Hardenhuish Park against a youthful League One Swindon Town outfit.

 

An early header from Nick McCootie and a second half Dean Evans lob saw Mark Collier's men home.

 

Bath City’s unbeaten pre-season came to an end as a goal just after half-time was enough give League Two Exeter City a 1-0 victory at Twerton Park.

 

Matt Jay was the Grecians` marksman.

 

East Thurrock United were beaten 4-0 at Rookery Hill by National League side Leyton Orient.

 

Macauley Bonne’s first half header, followed by goals from David Mooney, Josh Koroma and a Lewis Knight own goal after the break saw the O’s win comfortably.

 

Two second half goals from sub Elliott List, and one from Josh Parker, ensured League One Gillingham left Princes Park with a 3-0 victory over Dartford.

 

Goals from Theo Fairweather-Johnson on 53 and 77 minutes saw Bostik Premier new boys AFC Hornchurch to a 2-0 Bridge Road win over Concord Rangers.

 

Hampton & Richmond Borough were edged out 3-2 at Imber Court against Bostik Premier Metropolitan Police.

 

Reece Deakins and Daniel Uchechi for the Beavers.

 

Oxford City ran out 3-0 winners against a Luton Town XI that included a mix of their under-18 side and young professionals

 

Kabongo Tshimanga, Ben Jefford and an own goal for City.

 

Involving  National League North teams....

 

Newcomers Hereford FC left it late to avoid defeat in their final pre-season friendly against Southern League Division One Central side Evesham United.

 

Adam Hockey came off the bench to score in stoppage time as the Bulls managed to rescue a 1-1 draw at the Jubilee Stadium.

 

Evesham had broken the deadlock just before half-time when Ewan Dunbar`s effort struck a post, but Cory Simpson was well-placed to tap the ball home.

 

League returnees Altrincham sealed a 1-0 Moss Lane victory over League Two new boys Macclesfield Town.

 

Tom Peers scored the only goal after 8 minutes.


Stockport County went down 1-0 at Edgeley Park to League Two Rochdale, whose Joe Thompson scored midway through the second half.

 

A youthful Kidderminster Harriers team fell to a heavy 6-0 defeat to Southern League Premier Division Central side Alvechurch to bow out of the Worcestershire Senior Cup.

 

Alvechurch`s Tom Turton dispatched a 4th minute penalty to open the scoring.

 

Danny O’Callaghan doubled the lead just a minute later, rounding Mountjoy and finishing into the empty net.

 

Harriers matched their vastly experienced opponents until 5 minutes before half-time, as Turton dispatched another penalty, before Josh March bent the ball into the far corner to make it 4-0 at the break.

 

Alvechurch flew out of the blocks in the second half, Turton completing his hat-trick after 47 minutes from the penalty spot once again.

 

The final goal of the evening fell on 63 minutes as Kieron Cook netted on the rebound from a shot from Turton.

 

The Harriers` more senior players were in action at Aggboorugh against League One side Burton Albion.

 

An early goal from Ed Williams that nestled in the bottom corner saw the Reds open the scoring.

 

That lasted until halftime when the visitors equalised following the break with a goal from Joe Sbarra.

 

That’s the way it stayed until almost until the end when Luke McCormick sealed the game for the Brewers.

 

FC United of Manchester were beaten 2-0 by League Two Oldham Athletic at Broadhurst Park.

 

A trialist put Oldham ahead on 27 minutes after Giles Coke’s shot smashed against a post.

 

The Latics could have extended their lead before the break but Dan Gardner’s penalty was excellently saved by FC United goalkeeper Lloyd Allinson.

 

Athletic did net their second on the hour-mark as Johan Branger-Engone latched on to a cross by Cameron Dummigan.

 

Blyth Spartans saw off Northern League side Ashington 4-0 at Crodt Park.

 

Sean Reid, Jamie Holmes and a brace from Bradley Fewster allowed Spartans to cruise to victory.

 

Alfreton Town saw off Northern Premier League Buxton 3-0 at the Impact Arena.

 

Craig King, Curtis Bateson and an own goal were the Reds` scorers.

 

AFC Telford United lost 1-0 at Southern Premier Division Central Barwell.

 

An Owen Story goal was the difference between the teams.

 

Goals from Anthony Dwyer, Matt Stenson and Checkaine Steele saw Leamington win 3-0 at Barwell`s league rivals Bedworth United.

 

Buildbase FA Trophy winners Brackley Town sealed a 2-1 success at Owen Street against another Southern Central outfit, Coalville Town.

 

A trialist and Gregg Smith were on target for the visitors, Dean Freeman for the Ravens.

 

Spennymoor Town hammered Northern Leaguers Billingham Synthonia 11-1!

 

Glen Taylor and David Foley helped themselves to hat-tricks, while there were also goals for Stephen Brogan, Andrew Johnson, Mark Anderson, Rob Ramshaw and Jamie Chandler.

 

Goals from Jason Gilchrist with two and Jack Sampson earned Southport a 3-0 win at Wincham Park against Northern Premier League Witton Albion.
