Gateshead Keeper Loaned to Shrimpers

Goalkeeper James Montgomery has joined SkyBet League Two side Southend United from Vanarama National League North club Gateshead following an injury to loanee Alex Bass last Saturday.

The Seasiders worked fast to acquire Montgomery ahead of Tuesday night’s game against Cheltenham Town, allowing Blues to have two goalkeepers in the matchday squad.

The 26-year-old returned to Gateshead for his second spell ahead of the 2020/21 season and made 8 appearances before the Tynesiders’ season was ended and declared null and void.

Montgomery has also played for AFC Telford United, Forest Green Rovers and AFC Fylde during his career.
