Striker
Simeon Jackson arrives from National League South side Chelmsford City until
the end of the season, as does midfielder Alfie Payne.
Jackson (pictured),
who turns 34 later this month, is an experienced international striker who
signed for Chelmsford in January 2021 but has barely played due to the National
League South drawing to a halt due to the pandemic.
He
has a wealth of experience in the game, having started his career in England at
Rushden & Diamonds where he became a prolific goalscorer.
That
earned him a move to Gillingham and in the 2008/09 season, he scored 20 goals
in League Two, and then scored all 3 goals in the Gills’ successful play-off
run, including scoring the only goal in the 2009 League Two play-off final at
Wembley.
His
prolific goalscoring earned him a move to Norwich City, where he played a key
part in the Canaries going up to the Premier League, scoring 13 goals,
including the winner against Portsmouth which sealed promotion.
He
then played two seasons in the Premier League before joining Bundesliga side
Eintracht Braunschweig in 2013 for a season.
On
his return to England, he played for several clubs at the Championship and
League One level, including Millwall, Coventry City, Barnsley, Blackburn Rovers
and Walsall.
He
then played in the Scottish Premiership where he appeared for St Mirren and
Kilmarnock, before returning to England once more to play for Stevenage.
He
has also had a successful international career. Although born in Jamaica, he
moved to Canada at a young age, and picked up 49 caps for Les Rouges.
After
playing in Canada’s run to the Gold Cup quarter-finals in 2009, Jackson won the
Canadian player of the year award and in 2011 and became only the second
Canadian to score a hat-trick in World Cup Qualifying when he netted 3 against
Saint Lucia.
Twenty-one-year-old
Payne previously had a spell at The Walks on loan from SkyBet Championship side
Norwich City in the 2019/20 season, where he made 25 appearances, finding the net
3 times.
He
signed for Pitching In Southern Premier Division Central side Lowestoft Town in
late November 2020 after being released by the Canaries.
He
was one of ten youngsters to be offered first-year scholarships with Norwich in
July 2016.
In
June 2018, he signed his first professional contract with the Canaries and was
called up to the first team bench for the away clash with Sheffield Wednesday
in November 2018 due to an injury crisis and lack of homegrown players.
He
signed a new one-year deal with City in February 2019 and in August 2019 joined
King`s Lynn on a season-long loan ahead of their National League North
campaign.
However,
he was released shortly afterwards by Norwich after 12 years with the club and
signed for National League South outfit Braintree Town in the summer of 2020
but left the Iron at the end of October.
Director
of football, Rob Back, told https://www.kltown.co.uk: “We are thrilled to
welcome back Alfie to The Walks. He played a big part last season in helping us
achieve promotion into the National League and we look forward to having him
back at the club for the rest of the season”. |
