The central midfielder, who is described as possessing silky skills with a touch of aggression, had trials with both Leeds United and Norwich City before joining Lincoln City, signing professional forms in 2003.

In January 2004, he joined Lincoln United on loan and although he subsequently made his League debut for Lincoln, he was loaned out to Stamford during the autumn of 2005.

An impressive start to the 2006/07 season saw Lincoln offer a two-year extension to his current contract to keep him at Sincil Bank until June, 2009.

In November 2006, he was named in the Republic of Ireland (B) international squad for a friendly tie with Scotland. He was allowed to play for Ireland due to fact that his maternal grandparents were born there.

In February 2009, he joined Peterborough United on a three-month loan with a view to a permanent transfer and played 4 times in the Posh's promotion season from League One to the Championship.

The permanent transfer took place during the second week of May, 2009

In October 2012, he joined Rotherham United on loan. He scored 4 goals in 16 games and the signed for an undisclosed substantial fee in January 2013.

Frecklington scored in a 2-0 win over Aldershot Town in April 2013 which secured Rotherham's promotion to League One. They were promoted to the Championship the following season.

He also played when a 1-0 home defeat to Fulham saw the Millers relegated to League One.

In January 2018, he re-signed for Lincoln on a two-and-a-half-year deal, after turning down an approach from Mansfield.

He was released by Lincoln in May 2020 having made 51 appearances and scoring 7 goals.
