Vanarama National League Promotion Finalists Boreham Wood, beaten 8-1 by Premier League giants Arsenal last time out, came from behind to beat Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South side Barnstaple Town 4-1 at Mill Road on Thursday night.

The win was led by a brace from wing-back Ricky Shakes, with David Stephens and summer signing Femi Ilesanmi also scoring in Devon.

But Wood had to come bacn from a goal down after Stephens gave away a penalty that Barum’s Billy Hopcroft tucked away.

National League North side York City shared a 1-1 draw with a strong squad from Championship neighbours Leeds United.

York had taken the lead during a spell of dominance in the early stages, striking through a trialist defender, but Sam Dalby saved the visitors` blushes with the equaliser.

National League South side Eastbourne Borough welcomed Southern Combination League neighbours Eastbourne Town to Priory Lane for what proved to be an even and very competitive contest.

The home side opened at a blistering pace and were two goals up in the first 20 minutes, through excellent strikes from Charlie Walker and Lloyd Dawes.

Town were reeling for a while, and might well have shipped more goals, but their front pair of Evan Archibald and Tyler Capon were always a threat, the latter reducing the lead with a precise and cool finish after confusion in the Boro midfield had allowed him in.

A combative finale did not quite produce a goalscoring strike at either end and Boro held on for the 2-1.

Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division South side Weymouth went down 2-0 at the Bob Lucas Stadium to League One Exeter City.

Tristan Abrahams and Matt Jay were on target for the Grecians.

New signing Kieren Watson was on target for Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Matlock Town in their 4-1 home defeat by Frank Lampard`s Championship Derby County XI.

Northern Premier League East side Stamford AFC enjoyed a good 3-0 win at the Martin & Co Arena against Northern Premier League newcomers Gainsborough Trinity in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy.

Stanley Mugisha and a Bradley Fortnam-Tomlinson brace – all in the second half – clinched a good result for the Daniels.

Southern League Division One South new boys Street were beaten 5-2 at home by National League South side Bath City.

Street, promoted from the Toolstation Western League at the end of last season, went 2-0 up with a brace from David O`Hare.

But former Hereford FC favourite John Mills bagged a brace, with Adam Mann, Frankie Artus and Sean Bird bagging one each.

One of Street`s new league rivals Cinderford Town won 2-1 at Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division Longlevens.

Craig Norman header and Lewis Bamford were the Foresters` scorers and Jay Kennedy replied.

Bostik League South East side VCD Athletic beat Bostik Premier outfit Bishop`s Stortford 3-0.

Summer signings Alex Gaggin after 8 minutes and Charlie McDonald on 75 minutes and a last-minute Temi Odusanya effort were the home scorers.

Total Motion Midland League Premier Division side Boldmere St Michaels shared a 3-3 draw with Southern League Premier Division Central visitors Rushall Olympic.

The Pics – 3-1 down at one stage – scored through Joe Hull with two and Lewis Archer.

Goals from Dave Moore and George Donnelly saw Northern Premier League West side held 2-2 at Hallmark Security League Division One North neighbours St Helens Town.
