Askew started out at Rotherham United`s
centre of excellence, while going on to enjoy a spell in America for the
University of Jamestown, captaining the side in his final year.
He also played for Little Rock Rangers
in the fourth division of US soccer in 2019 and returned to England with Heanor
Town for a short period and then signed for Midland Leaguers Long Eaton United.
Askew told the club`s website: "My
hopes for this season are to win promotion for the club. We definitely have
enough talent to do this, and this would achieve a personal goal of mine to
progress up the steps.
“I can’t wait for pre-season to begin,
meet all the lads and the people at the club and start winning football matches
and hopefully keeping clean sheets."
Meanwhile, vastly experienced forward
Martyn Woolford (pictured) has returned to the club. The 35-year-old returns from NPL Premier
Division side Gainsborough Trinity, where he had been since July 2020. He had signed for Trinity`s league
rivals Hyde United in August 2019 and then stepped up to the Vanarama National
League North with Boston United three months later. He started his career in non-League
football with Glasshoughton Welfare and Frickley before stepping up to the
National league with York City in 2006. He earned two England C caps whilst a
Minsterman before signing for League One side Scunthorpe United in August 2008.
He went on to make 103 appearances for
the Iron, scoring 15 goals, before making 55 appearances for Bristol City, 93
for Millwall, 28 for Sheffield United, 9 for Fleetwood Town and 66 for Grimsby
Town, from whom he was released at the end of last season. |
