New to Boro is George Forest – a 6`2”, 18-year-old defender who was at both Ipswich Town and Colchester United as a youngster.

At 16 he was training with Maldon & Tiptreee, then at 17 signed a full-time deal with Maldon and regular training with Colchester academy.

He has played over 40 times at this level already with Maldon, Cheshunt and also had a spell at Barkingside.

Also joining Romford is 18-year-old Nathan Joesph, who signed after the practice match on Saturday.

Martin liked what he saw of Joseph, who has represented the county and district and also captained county to national championship in year 11.

Since then he has played at Wadham Lodge and Tilbury.

Martin has also signed two goalkeepers.

Rhys Hughes is a 20-year-old who started off at Ebbsfleet United and was then sent out on loan to Redhill when they were in the Isthmian League at the age of 17.

He then went to Greenwich Borough where he was in and around the first-team and then loaned out again, this time at Cray Valley PM.

The following season he went to Redhill and played a full season.

Hughes is looking forward to settling down at Romford. A vocal keeper with a commanding presence, he will be a welcome addition to the squad.

Steven Reynolds starts his second season with Boro.

A solid shot-stopper, he has grown in strength and confidence since he has been in the team.

He took a break to train for the London Marathon last year, but came back and was one of the players who helped the club retain their Bostik league status.

Michael Clarke, 24, has made a return to Romford.

Clarke first played for Romford when he was 17. He then went on to study in New Jersey, USA on a football scholarship for four years.

Whilst in the States, he won the player of the year award three years running and his team won the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in his last year.

He moved back to the UK after graduation and played Sunday League for a year with Global FC before re-joining Romford.

And Boro fans will be delighted with the return of club favourite Kurt Smith.

Martin couldn't hide his delight at signing one of the first players he worked with, when he joined the club fourteen years ago.

As well as Boro, Smith has also seen service with East Thurrock, Thurrock, Witham Town, Tilbury and Essex Senior League side Basildon United.

Martin told http://www.romfordfc.com: "I know Kurt very well, he played over 130 times for the club, and will bring with him a wealth of experience. He will be able to nurture the younger players, as I continue to develop a young squad, and I expect him to be a great influence, as the newer boys can learn from Kurt and the other senior players. I am delighted to have him back with us".
