The 23-year-old left-back came through the academy system at Nottingham Forest, spending 14 years at the club where he captained the under-18s to a league title as well as the fifth round of the FA Youth Cup.

Whilst at Forest, Crookes has enjoyed loan spells at Guiseley AFC, Lincoln City and most recently Port Vale, where his loan move was made permanent in the summer of 2019.

During his time at the Valiants, Crookes made a total of 39 appearances scoring once in all competitions.

Manager Paul Hurst told https://www.grimsby-townfc.co.uk: "He is a left-back predominantly but can also play left-sided centre back as well. He has decent experience as well for a young player, he has played in the League, had a good upbringing at Nottingham Forest, so everything that we were told and in the due diligence was about what a good attitude and what a good professional he is, so from that side he fits in nicely to what we're trying to build”.
