South West Peninsula League Round-Up
21-01-2019 I Round-Up News
On Friday night, Plymouth Argyle reserves bounced back from a midweek defeat at Newquay to extend the lead at the top of the table with a 6-3 win over Callington Town at Coach.

Callington played their part in an entertaining game and had led until a late flurry of goals for the Pilgrims.

With a lot of cup ties on Saturday there were just three Premier Division fixtures with all three seeing home wins.

The highest placed team in action were Exmouth Town who remain in sixth, but closed the gap on those above, with a 5-0 win over Ivybridge Town.

It was also 5-0 at Cullompton Rangers who climbed a place after their win over visiting Elburton Villa, whilst Newquay climbed two places with a 2-0 win at home to Camelford in a re-arranged game as both sides had received a bye in the Cornwall Senior Cup.

Two Cornwall Senior Cup ties were played on Friday night with both Premier sides involved avoiding potential slip ups against West Division opposition.

Helston Athletic needed extra-time before going through 3-2 against local rivals Penzance at Kellaway Park, whilst Sticker will gain some confidence from a 2-1 win at home to West Division neighbours St Blazey at Burngullow Park.

A third Premier side went through to the next round on Friday with Launceston being given a walk-over of Saturdays tie against Mullion when the Combination League side forfeited the tie on Friday afternoon.

The remaining ties were completed 24 hours later with seven Premier sides in action.

Four went through and three went out with two of the losers coming from all Premier clashes. St Austell had a 6-1 win away at Torpoint Athletic, whilst Cup holders Saltash United were 3-0 victors away at Godolphin Atlantic.

The one side to lose to lower opposition were Millbrook who lost 3-2 away at West Division side Mousehole.

Two Premier sides beat lower division opposition with Bodmin Town having a 3-1 win at home to Combination League side Illogan and Falmouth Town top scored as they romped to a 12-1 win away at East Cornwall League side Looe Town.
