A
statement from the club reads: “Despite signing some exiting young players, the
task was always going to be difficult for Dean. Unfortunately, even after
signing five players in the January transfer window, results have failed to
meet the high expectation of supporters and sponsors, leaving the Board of Directors
with very little alternative other than to make this change.”
Chairman
Les Barlow paid tribute to Clarke, telling his club`s website: “The Board are
grateful for all of Dean’s efforts and hard work. Not least his contribution to
Project Restart: following the decision to suspension the season as a result of
the Pandemic, Dean literally rebuilt the playing side from scratch.
“Unfortunately,
results have not gone as expected which I know has hurt Dean as much as anyone.
I am sure every true supporter of the club will join with the Board in thanking
Dean for everything he has done for the club and wish him every future success.
He will always be assured of a warm welcome here at Penydarren Park.”
The
pair arrived following the departure of Gavin Williams and worked incredibly
hard to re-build the team while also helping to re-connect with our fan base.
The
club have placed on record its appreciation for their contribution both as
former players and being in charge of team affairs for a football club that has
been part of their personal careers for a very long time.
Meanwhile,
Matty Harris (pictured) has agreed to become the club’s interim player-manager.
Harris,
who is a UEFA B licence coach, intends to work on the recent foundations laid
by Clarke and Williams in the January transfer window.
