The
37-year-old helped to run Dorking Wanderers` under-23 side last season before
being asked to help out in the first team as they pushed for promotion to the
Vanarama National League.
An
experienced defender works as a car dealer, he is best known for his years at
Basingstoke Town where he played in the 2006 FA Cup Second Round.
He
joined Dorking Wanderers in July 2017 and brought a wealth of experience, with
a career to-date that has seen him notch up almost 400 games in two spells at
Basingstoke, with stints at Carshalton Athletic and Farnborough in-between.
He
joined Isthmian Premier side Horsham as player-coach in August 2020 before
returning to Dorking.
Ray,
who lives in Storrington, has now hung up his boots but is relishing the chance
to manage his local side.
He
said: “Taking over the first team role at Storrington is an exciting new
chapter for me. It’s a challenge I can’t wait to get started on.
“I
have been fortunate enough to work under and learn from some top managers and
coaches during my playing days, at some great clubs. I believe these experiences,
along with my own views on football, will hopefully bring some exciting times
to the club”. |
