Defender
Liam Angel has re-united with his former Yate Town boss Paul Michael at the Martyrs.
The
23-year-old is a former Cardiff City youth player, Newport County professional
and Wales international right up to under-19 level.
The
centre-back arrived at now former Southern Division One South side Cinderford
Town from Newport in the summer of 2017 and grew into his first season in
senior football, and it was with the Foresters that he first played under Paul
Michael.
A
physical player who will not shy away and likes to pass the ball with an excellent
left foot, he switched to Southern Premier Division South outfit Yate in July
2020.
Merthyr
manager Paul Michael told his club’s website: “I’ve worked with Ange for a long
time now and he keeps getting better and better.
“He’s
a player moving towards the prime of his career and Merthyr Town is getting one
of the best about. One of the best as a centre-back, he’s got a bit of
everything, he enjoys defending, puts his body in the line, and reads the game
really well. He also has an excellent range of passing and the ability to play
into midfield or through the lines, and he’s an excellent communicator and
leader on the pitch.
“Ange
is also one of the best off the pitch to, he’ll settle in quickly with the boys
and I’m sure the supporters will take to him because he’s so passionate and
will give everything for the jersey”.
