The
19-year-old possessed bags of potential and has signed a two-year deal with the
Nottinghamshire outfit, who fought off significant competition from the
Vanarama National League upwards for his signature.
Starkie
made his debut for East African nation Tanzania earlier this year, playing 45
minutes in a 3-1 friendly win over Central African Republic, having previously
represented his country at under-19 level whilst at United Counties League
Premier Division South side Rugby Town’s academy.
Starkie
moves to Basford from Spalding United having joined the Tulips in November 2021
from Northern Premier League Division One Midlands rivals Shepshed Dynamo.
He
had been with Dynamo since July 2021 after returning to England following a
year with German professional outfit SV Wilhelmshaven.
Manager
Mark Clifford told his club’s website: “Ben is another signing that we’re
delighted to get over the line this week.
“He’s
been a pleasure to watch during the first week of pre-season - and gaining his
signature has been a challenge - but I’m confident this will be a great move
for him and a great addition to the first team squad.
“He
is at the right age and shows great hunger to succeed, as well as showing
maturity beyond his years with the ball”.
