The 23-year-old returns north after being released by SkyBet League One side Bristol Rovers during the summer, having spent a large chunk of last season on loan at Scottish club Queen of the South.

He started his career in the academy at Middlesbrough and he played for the first team in the EFL Trophy, the FA Cup and the Championship before going out on loan to Blyth Spartans, Forest Green Rovers and Scunthorpe United.

He moved to Bristol Rovers in October 2020 and played 7 times for them before going out on loan to Queen of the South, where he made 17 appearances, scoring one goal.

Ben is the son of Darlington legend Craig, who played nearly 300 times in several defensive positions for Quakers and was emergency manager during the upheaval of the 2011/12 season.
