The 19-year-old centre-half, son of former Liverpool and England defender Jamie, arrives at Boundary Park on a deal until January 2023.

A young player who is regarded as a highly promising prospect, Carragher was captain of the Wigan side which won the Under-18 Professional Development League two seasons ago.

He skippered the academy team having progressed through the academy at the DW Stadium during the previous four seasons.

The defender initially started out at Liverpool before joining Wigan as an under-14, winning a number of competitions and playing a key role in the side which impressively reached the quarter finals of the FA Youth Cup in 2020.

A player who has developed strong leadership skills and an excellent reading of the game, Carragher made his first-team debut in the EFL Cup last season and featured for the Championship side during pre-season.
