The 19-year-old, who spent time with the academy set-up at Shields, will link up with former Sunderland legend Kevin Phillips` side for the final 6 games of the season, with the Mariners needing a maximum of just 9 points to secure promotion to the Vanarama National League North. Gardiner has hit a run of excellent form in recent weeks, scoring 5 goals in 4 under-21 games to earn a nomination for February's Premier League 2 Player of the Month award. He has scored 7 times in 16 PL2 games this season, and has recently trained with Tony Mowbray’s first team.
