After a spell as caretaker boss, Elokobi’s been entrusted to lead the team for the remainder of this season and the 2023/24 campaign. The 37-year-old will need no introduction to Stones fans having been at the Gallagher Stadium since the summer of 2019, where he captained the team for three seasons. He brought a distinguished 20-year playing career to an end last May, scoring the opener in the final game of the championship-winning season, before leaving the pitch to a standing ovation and guard of honour. After the landmark of playing his last game, Maidstone have also provided a first for Elokobi, with the start of his coaching and managerial career. Alongside his first-team commitments, he worked at the club’s football academy for three years, coaching and inspiring the next generation, all while gaining his Football Association coaching qualifications. His was the first name in the frame when the managerial vacancy came up in January and he will now take up the role on a permanent basis. And Elokobi dipped into the loan market to bolster his squad for the final weeks of the season. First in is Ryan Viggars from SkyBet League One side Charlton Athletic on loan until the end of the season. He signed for the Addicks ahead of the 2021/22 season, following a spell at Sheffield United. The forward has been a regular for Wales throughout the youth ranks, representing the Dragons at under-17, 18 and under-19 levels. He made his first-team debut for Charlton at Leyton Orient in the Papa John’s Trophy in November 2021 and was on loan with Pitching In Southern League Premier Division Central side Needham Market at this start of this season. Also joining the Stones is Championship outfit Watford’s highly-rated forward Ezio Touray. The 20-year-old joined the Young Hornets this January from Isthmian League South Central side Basingstoke Town and has featured regularly for the under-21s since arriving at Vicarage Road, alongside taking part in first-team training. He was previously with the John Madjeksi Academy and is also with the Stones for the remainder of the campaign.
