This wasn’t an immediate decision with several meetings held to discuss the direction of the club, and where McCarthy sees himself over the next year and beyond. Following these discussions, it was mutually agreed that in the interests of both parties McCarthy will move aside as the first team manager. He has a lot of options open to him in terms of what he wants to do next season, both at Ashford and away from the club. There are also a lot of things happening within the club, and those need to be directed accordingly. These were not easy discussions, but everyone was honest and open about what they want to achieve, and the options for the new season ahead. McCarthy has been a huge asset to the club over many years. As a player and manager, and is revered around the Robert Parker Stadium as a true club man. He stepped in at a very low time and helped steady the ship. For all his hard work and dedication, the club are extremely grateful. Chairman Nick Bailey told https://www.ashfordtownmiddlesexfc.com: “This has been a really hard situation as Macca is not just the manager, but also a very close friend. Over the years he has given everything to our club. First as a player, and now as manager. Having discussions with him on where we were looking to go as well as asking him what he wanted going forward was tough. “We were all very open and honest which certainly brought about the best conclusion for everyone. I know that Macca has choices ahead of him for the future, and lots of options. Whether that sees him stay with us in another capacity, or move elsewhere, he will always be a part of Ashford Town, and has our full support. As I am sure he has our back as well”.
