The 28-year-old Kenyan initially joined Basford on loan from Northern Premier League Premier Division Grantham Town on deadline day in March and made promising home debut against Redditch United, before a standout performance in a 1-0 win over play-off winners Rushall Olympic last month - a result that sealed Basford’s Step 3 status. Wafula missed the remainder of the season following surgery on a broken finger picked up in the victory at Dales Lane. A wide midfielder, he started out as a trainee with Chesterfield. He joined Boston United in February 2018 after severing ties with then-National League North rivals Gainsborough Trinity. He has also played for Worksop Town and Shaw Lane AFC and transferred to then-Vanarama National League North side Guiseley AFC in August 2020, then to Northern Premier outfit Matlock Town in June 2021 and onto another league rival, Grantham, in September 2021.
